International collaboration

The goal of the international activities at the Sámi Education Institute is to preserve, support, and develop the languages, culture, and traditional livelihoods of the Sámi and other northern indigenous peoples. The Sámi Education Institute plays a key role in the development of the Sámi region and in Arctic expertise. The primary focus area of the international activities is the circumpolar Arctic region.

 

 

UArctic - University of the Arctic

The Sámi Education Institute is a member institution of the University of the Arctic (UArctic). UArctic is a circumpolar university network and one of the world’s largest education and research networks. Through this membership, student and expert exchanges are widely conducted across the entire circumpolar region. Student exchanges are indeed an essential part of our international activities.

Arctic Skills

The Sámi Education Institute is part of the Arctic Skills network, which aims to ensure the availability of sufficient Arctic expertise and professional skills, while also strengthening cross-border cooperation. The goal of the Arctic Skills collaboration is to enhance the visibility and status of vocational education in the cross-border regions of Norway, Finland, and Sweden. The collaboration activities range from international competitions and conferences to cross-border student exchanges between companies and educational institutions. In addition to the Sámi Education Institute, other Finnish educational institutions involved in the project network include Vocational Upper Secondary School Lappia and Lapland Education Centre REDU.
